Obviously, the Amish are used to living without electricity, and they're giving a hand to their neighbors without power and the means to heat or light homes until the power comes back.  If nothing else, the KY ice storm and power outage should be a reminder to people to prepare themselves for this kind of thing.  There are plenty of sites and books that offer up a guide to prepare for disasters like this or Katrina.
