I saw the link at the puppy blender's, just like you, and clicked to see if it was the Missing Link, but it wasn't. It was something cooler.
They just found another kind of intelligent hominid from 40,000 years ago that we had absolutely no idea had existed. That's pretty cool.
I wonder, did we ally with that type to kill off the neanderthals before killing and eating them or did we ally with the neanderthals against them before finishing off the neanderthals or did they form an alliance against us so we killed and ate them both at once?
And did they taste good? I bet, like us, they tasted like pork. I wonder if we made bacon out of them.
It really shows how little we know about the Earth. They never realized there was another type of human or near human living at the same time as us and the neanderthals.
So we're 2-0 so far against other intelligent species.
Goooooo Us!
May we continue undefeated until we kill ourselves off.

I actually took as quiz the other day to determine what I would taste like to a cannibal, and the result said roasted chicken.

I've never actually anybody eaten long pork, I'm just going by what I've read.
Supposedly Aztecs thought pigs were related to Spaniards because they tasted like people.

What would be interesting to know is the degree of cooperation there may have been. Was interbreeding possible? Could pockets of these groups have existed until the recent past (or even exist still today)? As an example, could the Nephilim of Genesis be an account of another group of humans (was Goliath a Neanderthal?)?
There's so much we don't know; it's fascinating and amazing that how much we're learning (and how much our children will learn!).

Neanderthals walk among us. Depending on which social science you put your faith in, they're now called either "redheads" or "men."
As far as them little fellers go, somebody must be responsible for all those short people still being born, or whatever it is they do.
Scientifically, I think the revelation here was that this was about 100K years ago, not just 40K. What has not been established is whether some later biker gang was keeping this girl's finger as a lucky souvenir, or just ate her there. That's where the hope and change come in.
