1 Makes me wonder if the kid goes to school, because I have to think they'd report this to child services so that an investigation can be opened.  

2 Here in PA there's a requirement that before any proceeds from a lawsuit or settlement are disbursed, the law firm has to check for outstanding child support payments.  I got to explain this new rule to everyone in the firm and was asked at what age do we have to start checking.  I said I'd check but I assumed it was 16 or so.  So I checked.  Twelve.  Fucking.  Years.  Old.  I may have become utterly convinced that our society is going to hell in a handbasket at that point.

And don't be sure that child services would investigate.  There's a lot of not so benign neglect of underage sex.  Don't forget, Planned Parenthood is pitching an enormous fit about having to report underage pregnancies.  I mean, the mere fact that there's pretty damn proof positive that the underage girl had sex, what with the being pregnant, we wouldn't want anyone to investigate that, oh no.

4 I have a niece who will be 12 in a few months. This is really disturbing.

5 Many states have exemptions to the statutory rape/age of consent that would render the father immune if he is himself a minor, or at least no more than a year or two older than the mother.  So a fourteen year old who gets a twelve year old pregnant might well face no criminal consequences.
Also bear in mind that while these things are more frequent, they aren't exactly a new thing.  I went to school with a girl who started to have casual sex at about the age of eleven.   Another schoolmate, a boy, started having sex at age eleven.  (Starting with, be it said, the same girl; but he was younger than her by a year or two.)  The girl was adopted, apparently emotionally abused by her adoptive partents, and eventually ran away when she was about fourteen.  The boy was spoiled rotten by his parents, who let him get away with just about everything because he was legally blind.  But he wasn't the only boy who had sex that young, nor was he the only boy who had sex with that particular girl at a fairly young age.
There was another boy at our school who apparently got a girl pregnant when he was fourteen--and beyond starting out that young, there was nothing out of the ordinary about him.  This was in the early 70s.
However, it is becoming more frequent.  But I'd rather have kids who need to pay child support over what happened around here last week: the body of a fourteen year old girl was found in a dumpster, and the murderer turned out to be a fifteen year old boy.  Motive: it his first time having sex, but not hers, and she made fun of how clumsly he was.
