McCain handed opportunity

Now, will he screw that opportunity up or not?  In any case, Obama is getting hammered for his ghoulish stance on abortion and lies about the issue.  I have to think even some people who are moderately pro-choice are going to be turned off by Obama's extreme positions and record on the issue.

1 I'm vaguely pro-choice and I think his position is utterly disgusting.  Once a fetus is outside the mother's body, it's a child.  There should be no freaking question as to whether or not that child should receive medical care.  The fact that it's even debatable is horrifying.  That's infanticide, pure and simple.  I feel the same way about partial birth abortion.

The more things like that and sex selective abortion and selectively aborting multiples becomes somehow acceptable, the less I support abortion at all.

Of course, I firmly believe that Roe v. Wade is one of the worst Supreme Court decisions ever so I'm not precisely sending funds off to NARAL here.

2 My prediction is that McVain will follow his normal "Mavericky" course and shoot himself in both feet by being a LIBERAL ally, as usual, and taking a LIBERAL VP.

The problem is Obama picked the worst possible response, which was to vacillate.  Look, he's a Democrat.  It doesn't surprise anybody that he votes pro-choice.  Instead of saying "I'm pro-choice, and that was bad legislation" or some such, he's trying the tired "I'm personally against abortion but have to vote pro-choice" line that Democrats seem to think fools naive evangelicals into voting for them.

Here's a clue: it doesn't.  Single-issue abortion voters always pull D if they're pro-choice, and R if they're pro-life.  End of discussion.

Why either side feels it necessary to try to convince these single-issue voters to cross the aisle will always be a mystery to me.
