This is pretty cool.

The color makes them freaky.
You don't expect to see some Emir Khan clutching his huge sword in color.

The Cossack looking Khan is freaky too, you can tell he's the real thing. He's not in a play or movie, he's just back from a busy day beheading peasants who were late on their taxes and maybe a quick pogrom on the Jews.

None of them are smiling. It's weird, even the kids aren't smiling.
That's why I don't like Russian literature, if I want depressing people who expect the worst, I'll read Allah.
