Win Britannia! (for once)

So, a Royal Marine veteran of tours in Afghanistan and Kosovo who has a tat of the insignia of his former unit on his arm, apparently shocked—SHOCKED!—the sensibilities of an airport security worker (details about whom aren't mentioned, I might add...hmmmmm) at Heathrow, who demanded that he cover it up.

"I explained it was my old regiment's insignia," he said. "She said it made no difference. They had a policy that tattoos of offensive weapons must not be on show."
He complained to an airport security official, and he actually won. No, really. There might be hope for the Limeys yet.

What's even better than Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter?

How about that Tim Burton is producing doing the movie?

I can't quite see Depp as Lincoln but I'm sure they'll make it work.

(No, Depp's not cast yet but if Burton directs you know that's who it'll be)

Steampunk. Is there nothing it can't do?

I found this article on the rise of steampunk to be interesting, particularly since I'm wearing a piece of steampunk jewelry at work today. It's a necklace consisting of a reworked transistor radio vacuum tube. Everyone is staring at it and one person actually knew what it was.

I'm also adopting this as my official life philosophy:

Steampunk is both optimistic and nihilistic. I like to think of this attitude as Gleehilism.

Gleehilism. I like that. It sums up the Funniest End of Civilization quite nicely. Plus this way I'll have a response when the BFF meanly calls me a cockeyed optimist. Am skary Princess of Death. Grr.

Oh and speaking of steampunk, if you haven't read Soulless run and do so now.  It's this utterly hilarious smashup of Bronte, steampunk, Victorian mores and urban fantasy.  I am a wee bit bitter that I didn't write it.  Tiny bit.

We hit the big time!

No, not being included in the top 100 conservative blogs or anything like that.  Nope.  Not that.

WE HAVE LACE WIG SPAM!  I REPEAT LACE WIG SPAM HAS BEEN ACHIEVED!

It brings a tear to the eye, it does.

Now we just need better trolls.  Not that I'm encouraging you mouthbreathers to sockpuppet.  Because I'm not.  That would be hilarious wrong.
