Sheesh. Arguning over $3 is one thing. But using this as a weapon? C'mon!
Daniel L. Winter, 26, spent Monday evening at a strip joint called Calendar Girls in Port Richey. A few minutes before midnight, his friends -- Ashley Decicco, 18, and her boyfriend Shaun Nater, 30 -- picked him up and they all ate at a Burger King. Afterward, as Decicco drove her car northward on U.S. 19, she asked Winter for the $3 in gas money.
Winter, who was sitting in the back of the car, said no. He couldn't pay it, he said, because his rent was due -- even though he had just been at Calendar Girls and eaten at Burger King.
Then, according to authorities, they argued and Winter slapped Decicco in the face as she drove.
This enraged her boyfriend, Nater, so he twisted around from the front passenger seat and punched Winter, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
Then Winter grabbed the fish tank.
It just happened to be in the back seat of the car. He allegedly beat Nater with it, but the fish tank had no effect on Nater, according to a report, so Winter grabbed another weapon -- a beer bottle, also from the back seat. Authorities say Winter pummeled Nater with the beer bottle, but Nater was able to wrestle it away from him -- all while Decicco drove along U.S. 19.
After getting the bottle from his friend, Nater bashed it over Winter's head several times until it broke, authorities said.
This brawl on U.S. 19 continued until Decicco pulled the car over in a Denny's parking lot and called deputies, Pasco deputies said.

Take Frank Rich and Jon Stewart. Both seize on the urban legend that I recommended Bear Stearns the week before it collapsed, even though I was saying that I thought it could be worthless as soon as the following week. I did tell an emailer that his deposit in his account at Bear Stearns was safe, but through a clever sound bite, Stewart, and subsequently Rich -- neither of whom have bothered to listen to the context of the pulled quote -- pass off the notion of account safety as an out-and-out buy recommendation. The absurdity astounds me. [...]
We need to declare a war on unemployment and solve it before we let it get out of hand. We need to stop house-price depreciation. Neither the pork-laden stimulus plan nor the confusing mortgage proposal put forward by Obama will defeat either enemy. When Obama trounces both unemployment and house-price depreciation, he will have the power to enact anything he wants. But all the initiatives he wants to rush, like tax hikes, changes in health care, tinkering with the mortgage deduction -- good grief, right now in the midst of the worst housing downturn ever -- and the tough cap-and-trade rules, will derail any chance we have of turning this economy around. Instead, they put the Second Great Depression smack on the nation's table. The markets thought he could stop it; hence the giant relief rally when he was elected. But in fewer than 50 days of his ascendancy, the markets' hopes were totally dashed and the averages are now forecasting the worst decline since the Great Depression. As someone who listens to what the averages are screaming, I think they are accurately predicting the future. [...]
(Oh, and memo to Bill Maher: Stop insulting my faux great-great-uncle Vlad Lenin. I am using him to dramatize the point of a failed nationalization and confiscation of the banks at the hands of the people. It is funny how the right is certainly very civil as my old friends and new allies as of last week, Fred Barnes and Sean Hannity, don't hold my left wing social view against me when they talk about my criticism of the president! I always love anyone from Fox on the team because they are fierce in their defense with much less gratuitous slamming.)

As you'll recall, the Senate voted to give DC a House rep, despite the fact it is explicitly unconstitutional to do so. Fortunately, Senator Ensign decided to add an amendment to the bill which would force DC into compliance with the Second Amendment, basically ending all the little bullshit abuses DC was heaping on to spite the Heller decision.
The Democrats in the House tried to strip that amendment, and the NRA declared the Ensign amendment a key issue, which means it goes onto the scorecard, i.e., vote the right way, Democrats, or you'll get 94'd again. Pelosi folded. I'm not happy that we're trading a horribly unconstitutional thing for a constitutional thing, but we're stuck doing this kind of thing until we smack some sense into the GOP leadership, and this was a pretty big tactical and psychological win for the NRA.

Two Arrested in Blockbuster Sting
Police in Brooklyn Heights stormed a Blockbuster Video last night, arresting the owner and two clerks on charges of distributing insensitive and harmful materials in violation of the 2009 Racial Reconciliation and Respect Act. Officers seized all DVD and videotape copies of four films, each of which was on the RRRA list of Socially Unacceptable Films.
