GOP leadership finally gets around to offering tepid defense of missile defense program

Should I just shut up and be grateful they even said anything?  I mean, hell, it only took a few North Korean missile launches and nuclear warhead tests to make them voice some concern.

40% of Republicans not happy with GOP

I'd like to see a breakdown of that, moderate vs conservative.  In any case, it shows what a bunch of incompetent fucksticks the GOP leadership is composed of, they ought to be poised to destroy the Democrats in 2010, and they're already behind in the VA governor's race.

I think if the GOP leadership can't get their shit together by 2010 or 2012, there's either going to be a major purging of the current GOP leadership, or a significant third party will emerge in response in a way that will rattle the DC establishment in a profound manner.

Conservatives as a general rule don't want their lives to revolve around government and politics, so it isn't an environment that we're comfortable being in.  All that said, conservatives are beginning to feel cornered and overwhelmed, and will soon see no other alternative but to get fully involved in politics, as campaign workers, as operatives, as strategists, as activists, as candidates.  Conservatives aren't going to be happy about it, either.

A spectacularly bad idea

Every conservative in America knows that the MSM is in the tank for Democrats in general and Obama in particular. What should we do about it? Well, not this:

And the claims that the GOP wants to censor journalists begin in 3...2...1...

Allah highlights the most idiotic part:
“To me, the greatest threat to America is not necessarily a recession or even another terrorist attack. The greatest threat to America is a liberal media bias.”
Yeah, because liberal bias kills people and steals their money for a bunch of government boondoggles. Well, it may actually help with the latter, but still.

Worst of all, this sure as hell blunts our arguments against the re-imposition of the fairness doctrine, doesn't it? When you've got a GOP Congressman implying that there's a problem with the fact that most MSM reporters donate to the Dems, and that we need a caucus to deal with that, doesn't that hand the other side a pretty effective talking point about talk radio?

Oh sweet! More abusive GOP fundraising letters to constituents!

From the same bunch of window lickers who gave us the PAST DUE fundraiser, we have the latest bit of badness, courtesy of Chad at KURUlounge.  It's another questionnaire with tired talking points that you're to answer affirmatively to like a drone, and then this,

"Will you join the Republican National Committee by making a contribution today?

Yes (check an amount)

Yes I support the RNC, but I am unable to participate at this time. However I have enclosed $12 to cover the cost of tabulating my survey

No I favor electing liberal democrats over the next 10 years.

This is it?  As Chad says, where's your fucking plan, geniuses?  Is this your plan?  This sort of offhand threat?  If I didn't know any better I'd say the GOP favors electing liberal Democrats over the next 10 years.  The GOP is fucking useless.

Excuse Me While I Bang My Head Against The Keyboard

What? Are you fucking kidding me?

“With The Huffington Post, particularly, we see a lot of value in engaging with people who wouldn’t necessarily be inclined to agree with our point of view,” said Coburn press secretary John Hart, who added that it's one of a handful of sites that can have an instant impact on the national debate.

“HuffPo and [Talking Points Memo] really are the assignment editors for many in the Washington press corps — particularly the cables,” said Brian Rogers, who was a spokesman for Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign. “That’s not just a Republican hack saying it — that’s speaking as a press guy fielding calls and e-mails daily from the MSM that start with, ‘Did you see this thing on Huffington Post?’ They were effective and they wasted a lot of our time.”

While conservatives like Tony Blankley and David Frum {Frum is a "conservative"? Who knew?-ed.} have written for Huffington Post in the past, Republican Aaron Schock (R-Ill.) recently became the first active member of Congress to  blog— just after winning the site’s “Hottest Freshman” contest.

In his post, Schock wrote that while most Huffington Post readers “didn't vote Republican,” he was determined to take a bipartisan approach in Congress. Similarly, Coburn made sure to mention the left’s critique of the Democrats' health care plan in his piece — and also emphasized bipartisanship.

They won't be the last Republicans to post at the site.

During the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner, Huffington invited House Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) to blog. Said Cantor: “I can’t say we enjoy being on your site, but we seem to be on there a lot.”

Indeed, there’s sort of an if-you-can’t-beat-join-them mindset driving Republicans' increased outreach to the site.

“The reality is that at the end of the day, like them or dislike them, sites like The Huffington Post, Plum Line, Salon, and others can drive news,” said Brad Dayspring, press secretary for Cantor. “For that reason alone, being responsive and even proactive — especially on wedge issues — has become more prevalent as political communications has evolved.”

Boosting Rubio

Nobody is happy about the NRSC trying to sabotage Marco Rubio by endorsing Crist.  We really have two options at this point, let the RINOs have the GOP, let everything fall apart and rebuild, or try and salvage things with decent candidates.

If Rubio is going to stop the RINO Bob Barker lookalike, he'll need support, RedState is calling on people to begin volunteering or donating to the Rubio campaign.  I'd say it's worth boosting Toomey or Rubio, we need to make one of them win in order to send a message to the GOP leadership, and the NRSC in particular.

Agreed: The NRSC needs to stay out of the primaries

Between Toomey/Specter and Rubio/Crist, the NRSC, and Cornyn in particular, are out of control.

Snort

Is "pathetisad" a word?

The Republican strategist who helped Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman prepare for a possible presidential run says the Republican party is in for a devastating defeat if its guiding lights are Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh and Dick Cheney. "If it's 2012 and our party is defined by Palin and Limbaugh and Cheney, then we're headed for a blowout," says strategist John Weaver, who advised Huntsman and was for years a close adviser to Sen. John McCain. "That's just the truth."

Yes, because having a moderate like John Huntsman worked out great for us in 2008. But then again, Our Betters did tell us that McCain's loss wasn't based on his ideology (or lack thereof).

McCain's poodle barks angrily at South Carolina's conservative activists

Via Vinty on Twitter, here he is arguing the UK Tory strategy, which is a proven failure,

“You’re a hypocrite!,” one man in the audience yelled.

“I’m a winner, pal,” Graham responded. Moments later, after saying he wants to the party to reach out to independent voters, he said: “Winning matters to me. If it doesn’t matter to you, there’s the exit sign.”

I'm not gonna drink the ZOMG WE MUST MODERATE NAO!!!1!1eleventy!1 Kool-Aid, because it isn't true, if it was, McCain would have wiped the floor with Obama.  Joe sent me this article a few days ago, it does a good job debunking the Tory strategy. I couldn't come up with a place for it until I saw this story about McCain's poodle today.  Check it out, it's a good article.

Quote of the Day

“I’m not going to give this party over to people who can’t win.”
Head to the link to see why this is so funny (in the tragic way, not the actually funny way), especially given the election results last fall.

...

Okay, back yet?

Yeah.  He is The Decider, and He has spoken.  Oh, to have been in that room.

Little things that make life worth living

Snapshots of a Twitter conversation:

Her: (paraphrased) Huntsman is teh awesomez, and his acceptance of the ambassadorship makes him a hot future candidate.

Me: And he's just like a younger John McCain.  That worked out for us great in 2008!

Her: McCain lost because of the economy, and because he was running against Obama.

Me:  And conservatives didn't like or trust him, and he wasn't able to explain his own positions or why he held them

Her:  Well, I worked at the RNC last fall, so I know what I'm talking about.  It wasn't that at all.

Your Betters have decided why he lost, now you rubes need to shut up.

Okay, hun.

Okay, you Beltway shitbags want a fight with the base?

We'll fucking give you one.  They're trying to sabotage Pat Toomey and now they're trying to stop Marco Rubio.  We're not letting it happen.  Here's Mel Martinez,

"I am endorsing [Crist]," said Martinez.

After saying "I'm not telling" Rubio not to run, he added: "I also believe he will not be successful at this time, so he might want to focus on a race he wants to win."

What a smug fucking bastard.  Fuck this guy, fuck Hatch, and fuck Cornyn too.  We're going to stomp you bastards come primaries.

Well, it's not like they've let us down before!

The NRSC has endorsed Gov. Charlie Crist for Senate in 2010, leaving me more convinced than ever that my choice to support Marco Rubio was the correct one.

Sen. John Cornyn's statement literally says that Crist is the best candidate for Florida in 2010, which I suppose means that Crist will be running as a Democrat.

Update: Jim Geraghty has Rubio's first ad against Crist, as well as a statement.

Orrin Hatch is one stupid motherfucker

Seriously Utah, if you guys can elect a good guy like Jason Chaffetz, you can vote out an idiot like Hatch.  Anyway, Hatch says this,

The senator said that in a phone conversation yesterday, Obama sought to reassure him that when he spoke last week of picking a justice with “empathy” for ordinary Americans, he didn’t mean he would select someone who would focus on pushing their political views into the law.

“That’s language that only applies to real activist justices,” Hatch said. “He assured me that’s not what he meant when he talks about empathy; he is talking about a judge who has a heart but still lives with in the framework of the law,” the senator said. “That was good.”

Hatch also said Obama told him “he is pragmatic about it. He thinks most people will be happy” with his choice.

Unfuckingbelievable.

Of course: Ridge now putting serious thought into sabotaging Pat Toomey

I've pretty much had it with the GOP leadership, they've ALL got to go.  Cornyn and Hatch in particular need to be voted out for their efforts to undermine Toomey.

If you're a public official or GOP official and you want to stop this sellout from happening, you need to speak up now.

Is the NRSC this fucking stupid?

Are they really thinking they're going to torpedo Toomey with Ridge?  You know what?  Go for it NRSC, you were already stupid enough to hitch your wagon to Benedict Arlen, why not make it 0-2?  You and the GOP can become the Detroit Lions of American politics.

Here's why the NRSC and RNC are a bunch of dumb bastards if they pull a stunt like this.  I can see the GOP elite thinking they've got this shit figured out, but they don't.  They think they can win the general with Ridge because he's a RINO's RINO, and PA is a bluish state.  But they're wrong, because Toomey would crush Ridge in the primary, no matter how much money they'd throw at the primary campaign.  Outside of the Philly 'burbs, Republicans in PA are fairly conservative (as Carville famously noted), we'll back Toomey and win the primary.  So, not only will the NRSC end up with egg on their faces, yet again, they'll have torpedoed Toomey anyway for general, and do what few thought possible, make conservatives even more pissed off at the GOP elite than they already are.

McCain's poodle yipping about Benedict Arlen's defection

What a tool,

"I don't want to be a member of the Club for Growth,” said Graham. “I want to be a member of a vibrant national Republican party that can attract people from all corners of the country — and we can govern the country from a center-right perspective.”

“As Republicans, we got a problem,” he said.

Yeah, it's the called the GOP leadership.

Benedict Arlen comes out of the closet

He finally admits what we all knew, he's making it official.  Adios.  He is of course doing this because Toomey would have stomped him in the primary, and he wouldn't make it as an independent, he needs some party infrastructure to save his ass, so this was his last option, or you know, he could have retired with dignity.

BTW, Pat Toomey probably has a clear path to take the primary now, which is good, but even then he's going to need a lot of help if he's going to beat Benedict Arlen or whoever ends up as his opposition.

And of course the dumbass GOP leadership had no fucking clue this was coming.
