Interesting survey released for Veterans Day

Over at This Ain't Hell, two articles highlighting a recent survey of US vets, how returning/retiring veterans are viewed in the community, and how they'd like to be viewed.  Many veterans feel their communities think of them as broken victims, or that vets have done their service, so they should be free to kick back and relax.  Most veterans however want to more actively serve their communities, but aren't being called upon to do so.  So if you're active with a church group, charity or club, maybe offer a vet a chance to get involved, it might be the best way to honor them and their service.

1 well, all I can tell you is that this vet (Army 92-97) really only pissed off when folks try to victimize us in ANY manner.  There's the blatant "dangerous potential PTSD-inspired killer" (i.e. the Major Hasan narrative we're hearing out of the MSM), then there's the infantalizing "our boys and girls are getting killed" bullshit.  Every last person I served with in the Army (and the Navy, Marine and AF folks I knew) had one thing in common.  Not all of them were conservatives.  Not all of them were US Citizens.  Not all of them were patriots (yes, I knew douchebags who were in just to repay their college debt, and the less I remember about those types, the better for my bloodpressure).  But every one of them, EVERY last one of them was an adult who volunteered.  So it burns my ass when fucktards try to portray us as ignorant (or stupid), misled, brainwashed victims.
