Don't Hit the Cowbell
Maybe just set it on the table just out of arm's reach:
Fewer Americans went without health insurance in 2007 than in the prior year, while there was a gain in median household income adjusted for inflation, the Census Bureau reported Tuesday. The number of people without health insurance fell to 45.7 million in 2007 from 47 million in 2006, the government said in its annual snapshot. Median household income adjusted for inflation rose 1.3% to $50,233. The poverty rate hit 12.5% in 2007, compared with 12.3% in the prior year - not statistically different, according to Census.
This can't be possible. We're in the worst depression since the FDR was in office and there is absolutely no way that people can get health insurance without being blessed by The One.
I call bullshit.

CNN is spinning this story: "The number of uninsureds is lower because more people were on state and federal government health programs."

Totally irrelevant to the topic, but I almost fell over laughing when I saw the title because I happen to have Mahler's Sixth Symphony on the CD player just now.
Meanwhile Hurricane Gustav starts to hammer through the Caribbean; no doubt we will hear discussions of whether it will make two or three landfalls before its over.

I can't believe that I saw AP report on this without trying to slant the facts (well not too much). What's interesting is that people move in and out of coverage all the time. They lose their jobs and coverage. They get a job and gain coverage. They're in between (like my daughter graduating college). I buy her a policy and then she gets a job and loses coverage but gets coverage. Ditto for those going on medicare. What's the true figure and who are these people that make up the uninsured? Anybody truly know?
I'm against the universal health plans but still wish everyone was covered.
