Breaking:  Al Masri, leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq Killed By Intelligence Team

Claimed by Iraqi Prime Minister, still breaking at Fox.  No link.

UpdateLink.

Update Part Deux:   There isn't too much detail but reports are that this was an Iraqi score which is great news.  Even if it was planned/organized by U.S. forces it would be a big win for the Iraqi intelligence agencies but if they did it all by themselves it would show a very impressive improvement in Iraqi capabilities and would do much to reassure me as to their ability to remain independent in the long run.

Either way, rot in hell you piece of shit.  Get Satan fucked.  Like a viking.

Update:  They got Baghdadi, too.  This is the biggest score since Udey and Qusay got blowed up.

The U.S. military said Monday that Al Qaeda in Iraq leaders Abu Ayyub al-Masri and Abu Umar al-Baghdadi were killed early Sunday morning in a raid led by U.S. and Iraqi forces, after a week of operations led them to a safehouse where the terror chiefs were hiding.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki showed reporters at a news conference on Monday pictures of two dead bodies he identified as al-Baghdadi and al-Masri.

The U.S. military said the two terrorists were killed in a nighttime raid just southwest of Tikrit, the hometown of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

"The death of these terrorists is potentially the most significant blow to Al Qaeda in Iraq since the beginning of the insurgency," the U.S. top commander in Iraq, General Raymond Odierno, said in a press release Monday.

2 Just as a point of interest, the names "al-Masri" and "al-Baghdadi" are part of their "nom du guerre".  They mean "the Egyptian" and "the [guy from] Baghdad".  Even their "first names" aren't proper names either.  "Abu Ayyub" just means "Father of Ayyub" and "Abu Umar" means "Father of Umar".  They're pseudonyms.  Just thought you might want to know.
