McCain finally stands up for himself

Sen. McCain's campaign has finally grown some...ahem...and called out Obama for playing the race card:

As the Illinois Democrat campaigned in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Thursday, Republican John McCain's campaign manager Rick Davis has issued a statement saying that Obama "played the race card, and he played it from the bottom of the deck."

Davis said that move was, as he put it, "divisive, negative, shameful and wrong."

I think that if anything loses this election for Obama it will be his own massive ego, not necessarily anything McCain does or doesn't do.  This kind of hubris just isn't likable.

Tom Coburn shows Harry Reid and the Senate porkers his pimphand is way strong

Coburn managed to use holds to stall out a series of wasteful and frivolous bills and spending measures, so Harry Reid and the Democrats rolled up a bunch of the bills into a larger omnibus bill.  Coburn then managed to crack enough Senate GOP heads to keep them honest, and shot this omnibus bill down too.  Awesome.  We need moar Coburns.

Awesome

A nice chaser to go with the last Don Young story.  Don Young has also been declared a Tax Pledge Violator by Grover Norquist for his support of HR 2642, which called for a tax hike.  Hey! Those bridges to nowhere don't buy themselves now, you've gotta pay up.  Or you know, vote Don Young's worthless ass out of office in favor of Sean Parnell.  Or maybe you could help Sean with a little donation if you aren't an Alaskan.

Can we push Lou Barletta over the top?

Soren Dayton at The Next Right had the opportunity to do an interview with Lou Barletta, and thinks that Barletta can take down Democrat Paul Kanjorski in PA D-11.  If you read the article, Dayton has his post with "Donate to Lou Barletta" plastered all over it.  And you should if you don't have a conservative to donate to, he's going to have a tough fight.  The Democrats are getting twitchy and are already starting to give Kanjorski a little help in his district, if that's any indicator.  Kanjorski isn't to be underestimated, despite his recent series of gaffes, this is a Democrat who managed to take his seat during one of the great Reagan Deluges.

Helping Lou Barletta win would also be an excellent way for all those who want to send a message to DC about illegal immigration.

I'd also recommend Chris Hackett in D-10, the GOP lost D-10 when our pork fiend congressman decided to have an affair, and may have attacked his mistress in an argument.  He's a major improvement over the Democrat we have now, is totally opposed to pork and the out of control spending in DC.  D-10 is a pretty solid red district, and there's no reason why we can't take this seat.

Praise where praise is due

I may have my doubts about McCain, but I think he is finally running a smart campaign.  First he hit Barack Obama yesterday for choosing to put winning a campaign above winning a war.  Now his campaign is making two smart moves (h/t on both to The Corner).  First, he's countering Sen. Obama's speech in Berlin by reaching out to Berliners himself:

In the latest effort to counter-program Obama’s tour of Europe and the Middle East, the Republican National Committee will air radio ads promoting John McCain’s candidacy in three different Berlins: Berlin, New Hampshire; Berlin, Pennsylvania; and Berlin, Wisconsin.
Eh, maybe a little bit hacky, but it made me laugh nonetheless.  Because I'm a hack, mostly.  Make sure you check out the comments at the link, by the way.  I didn't know Keith Olbermann had so many screen names.

McCain might also consider taking Rush Limbaugh's advice during his visit to New Orleans:
The campaign has been discussing having McCain visit an offshore oil rig during his visit, but it's not certain whether that is still on the agenda. A campaign aide would only say that McCain is planning to do "an event in the region" Thursday.
Sounds like a good idea to me.  Now, if he'd just accompany Gov. Palin on a visit to ANWR so he could change his mind on that issue, too.

Update: Looks like he's not only canceled the oil rig trip, he might be cancelling the New Orleans trip altogether.  Lame.

Is Rep. John Murtha being out-raised by his challenger?

It seems to be true, but with a few caveats:

A Republican challenger to Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania has raised more money than the incumbent in recent months, but also has more debt and has raised less overall.

William Russell, a former Army lieutenant colonel who relocated to Murtha's district to run against him, raised nearly $670,000 in the fundraising quarter that ended June 30.

That's interesting. If you feel like helping Russell rid the House of Representatives of one of it's corrupt members, donate to his campaign here.

Update: It looks like Michelle Malkin was a little bit ahead of me. Her new article is about this House race and it's worth a read. Although this is a little bit groanworthy (emphasis mine):

“The incredible story about Bill’s campaign is that the $15 and $25 contributions are coming in from all over Pennsylvania and every corner of the country,” Luksik noted on the Russell Brigade website (www.russellbrigade.com). “This is K-Street versus Main Street. These are patriotic families expressing support for soldiers, sailors and Marines, and people saying they’ve had enough of the old ‘pay-to-play’ culture in the Capitol. That’s what’s fueling this campaign.”

Hmmm...who else do we know that uses that kind of rhetoric?

Black Gold, Alaska Tea

I don't know where DPUD hides that siren graphic but we've got another big fucking GOP win:

The Bush administration didn’t waste much time after its lifting of the executive ban on off-shore drilling to make its second big gesture towards the oil markets. Late yesterday, the Bureau of Land Management opened 3.9 million acres of land in Alaska for drilling and exploration.

Fucking fantastic! Look for the price of oil to drop another 10 to 20 dollars as speculators begin to speculate that the United States might be back in the oil business. Also, as retarded as sending an envoy to Iran seems geopolitically, economically it may have been a really intelligent plan. President Bush may have just single-handedly popped the oil bubble.

Too optimistic? You tell me.

More good drilling news out of Utah

Remember Jason Chaffetz?  He just defeated amnesty shill and Rep. Chris Cannon in the GOP primary for Utah's 3rd district.  He's also headed north to Alaska for a few days:

Congressional candidate Jason Chaffetz will join several other Republican contenders on a trip to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge next week to see first hand where some have proposed drilling for purported vast oil deposits.

[...]

"Energy has become the No. 1 issue and I want to see firsthand part of the solution," Chaffetz said Wednesday.

I don't know Cannon's stance on ANWR, but it is certainly nice to have a candidate that is pro-active enough to visit the site.  And if Mr. Chaffetz is reading this moronblog for some reason, I just want him to know that he can expect to see an unsolicited cover letter and resume from me in a few days.

Today just keeps getting better

Huckabee tells CNN that he isn't in the running to be VP.  That's okay, Hucktard and his supporters can go on supporting and funding corrupt tools like Don Young.  (h/t)

Fred Thompson: Wes Clark Is A Cock

Srsly!

I am disappointed that Wes Clark chose to allow himself to be used this way. He really shouldn’t have. It too easily invokes the image of a bantam rooster trying to belittle an American eagle.

I miss The Fred.
