Pete Hoekstra announces to the world that he and others had just landed in Iraq for a meeting on his Twitter account.  He then apparently wrote some badly misspelled prose, reflecting on his soulpatterns and mindthoughts.

They joined Democrat governors in signing a letter to President Obama supporting his "stimulus" bill:

1)  Gov. Charlie Crist of Florida
2)  Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California
3)  Gov. Jim Douglas of Vermont
4)  Gov. Jodi Rell of Connecticut

Sen. Judd Gregg is a douche

He says he's convinced Democrat Gov. John Lynch to appoint a Republican to his empty seat.  The Republican who he's planning on appointing won't run for re-election when the seat is up in 2010 and "will not shy away from tax increases."

All this so he can provide The One with a little post-partisan cover.

Maybe.  The word is that Obama is looking to tap Sen. Judd Gregg for Secretary of Commerce.  If he accepts, Democrat Gov. John Lynch would choose his replacement.

Believe the Politico: Bunning needs to go

Normally, I would pass a story like this off as another attempt by the MSM to build a meme for defeating a Republican.  Not this time, though.  It's true.  Jim Bunning needs to announce his retirement after this term:

While Bunning has shown no sign that he’s ready to retire, there’s little evidence he’s prepared for the tough, expensive campaign that looms ahead.

Bunning will need to raise millions to mount a serious defense of his seat, but he is already well behind pace with only $175,000 in his campaign account through September, the latest a report was available. Worse, he isn’t expected to hold his first fundraiser until April.

Bunning barely squeaked through in his 2004 re-election campaign against then state senator (and current lieutenant governor) Daniel Mongiardo.  Remember?  That was the election where Bunning stated that Mongiardo looking like one of Saddam Hussein's sons, among other things.  Embarrassing. 

His retirement would clear the way for some new blood in the Republican political establishment in Kentucky:

Still, there are signs that Bunning could face a serious primary challenge from Kentucky’s 36-year-old secretary of state, Trey Grayson.

Grayson has already heard from leading GOP fundraisers and supporters urging him to run, said spokesman Les Fugate, adding that Grayson wouldn’t rule out a primary challenge against Bunning.

“I don’t think he will ever close the door on any opportunity, and he’s not considering it right now, but you never say never,” said Fugate.

Trey Grayson won statewide election as a Republican in 2007 at the same time GOP Gov. Ernie Fletcher lost re-election by 20 points.  GOP Rep. Geoff Davis from Kentucky's 4th District (where I grew up) is also a potential challenger, but since I didn't get hired in his DC office after two interviews, I'm going to be spiteful and support Grayson instead.

If Bunning decides he's in this for himself, he's likely to face a strong, strong challenge from Attorney General Jack Conway.  And Conway will win.

Looks like John Ensign got into McCain's Metamucil

The Senator has a fevuh, and the only prescription is more Hopenchange^tm:

“It’s really not a time to be obstructionist,” Ensign, chairman of the Senate Republican Policy Committee, said on Fox News. “It’s a time where we as a party need to try to work with especially President Obama and try to solve some of the country’s problems.”

The Republican senator, who praised Obama for having some “really good ideas” coming into office, said given the myriad of challenges facing the nation, it is time to “put the country before our party.”

The sad part is that they probably will be more helpful to President Obama than the Democrats in the Senate.  With few exceptions, Republican Senators are squishes who either lack or have severely misplaced principles.  Democrats, however, will (maybe) spend a good deal of time criticizing Dear Leader whenever he veers to the right of Lenin.  Depressing.

Oh, and just to remind everyone, Sen. Ensign was the head of the NRSC the last election cycle.  I wonder why we lost so many seats?

Guess which "conservative" columnist was literally awed by the Obamanauguration?

I'll give you a hint: her name rhymes with "Rathleen Rarker."

Sitting on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, extremities numb despite layers of wool, and seeing so many gathered to witness this thing they called "change" was, dare I say it, awesome. That most-annoying hipster term for anything remotely acceptable is suddenly useful for its intended purpose.

For awe is the truest word to describe what transpired and what was inspired.

Is there any way that we can excommunicate this gigantic fucking tool from the ranks of the conservative movement?  Because I'm getting really sick of her bullshit.  And I'm pretty sure I can get an "amen" from most of you.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go punch a wall.

Who needs enemies when you have friends like this?

Orrin Hatch sells out on the Holder nomination, and engages in copious amounts of Obamic ass-kissing. I agree with Eddie that we can't let ourselves become too pessimistic, negative or fatalistic, but the fact that we can't rely on our own people at all (and we haven't been able to do so, even during the good times) is highly demoralizing.  The GOP elite need to do a hell of a lot better than this.

Politician who really has fallen from grace

McCain (the bad one) begins to work on a new push for Amnesty, according to Harry Reid.  With the Democrats having the House, and are pretty damn close to a filibuster-proof majority, we're going to have one hell of a fight on our hands.  If you thought the previous amnesty fights were vicious and divisive, get ready, because this one is going to be twice as bad.  The only thing that might save our asses is if they decide to go after socialist health care first.  That one I think we can bog them down enough to make the Dems blink, and we're less likely to have as many sellouts...I think.  God only knows with the smacktards we have working for us in DC.

Crushed Chip

Chip Saltsman is a fool, no doubt, anyone who would work for the Huckabee campaign is almost guaranteed to be one.  Saltsman and Katon Dawson both seem to be incapable of taking a slightly different path when a huge steaming pile sits in front of them.  If you remember, Katon Dawson is another one of the idgit brigade running for the RNC Chair, why yes, Dawson was the guy who was part of a country club that doesn't allow minorities to join! 

If you haven't heard some liberal twat reporter glowingly reporting this one, there's a big big clusterfuck developing around Chip Saltsman and his decision to include a copy of Paul Shanklin's "Barack, the Magic Negro" on a mixtape (CD, whatever) he was handing out for the holidays.  Saltsman of course should know better than to give the left such an easy, stupid thing to demagogue him on, so really, if the GOP wants to their current track record of unthinking, unsavvy numbskulls at the top, Saltsman and Dawson are the way to go. 

On the flipside, we see the equally cluelless sanctimony from the Greater Than Thou wing of the GOP as well,

First played on Rush Limbaugh’s popular, though often taboo, radio show, the 41-track CD, entitled “We Hate the USA,” featured the racially-charged song “Barack the Magic Negro.” After all, nothing says “Christmas” like racial insensitivity…

Defending the ill-conceived Christmas goodie bag as a good humored joke, Saltsman told The Hill: “Paul Shanklin is a long-time friend, and I think that RNC members have the good humor and good sense to recognize that his songs for the Rush Limbaugh show are light-hearted political parodies.” 

HA HA, get it, “negro” is a funny word.

HA HA, gotta love it when "our side" attacks us as dishonestly as the left does.  For those unfamiliar, Shanklin's song is based on this article in the LA Times by film reviewer/columnist and David Ehrenstein, Ehrenstein isn't some right wing nut either, he's had a long career writing for various liberal magazines and papers.  Ehrenstein's article is a commentary on liberals who were projecting the image of the Magic Negro character onto Barack Obama. 

Shanklin simply took the article and made it into a tune.  So to just pretend it's just some hillbilly going, "Durrr-hurrr, magic negro, hurrrr!" with a finger in his nose is dishonest, but hey, nothing better than a pat on the head from your liberal betters, eh?  Keep up the good work and you'll soon be writing for the Gay Gossip Site and Anti-Semitic Conspiracy Newsletter, The Atlantic.
