Why Not Mock Olbermann Even More?

This may or may not be old news, but Keith Olbermann's growing paranoia and Messiah Complex are becoming too comical for words. I know he is back in NYC to "cover the hurricanes", but something more is going on. Hell, if even half of this NY Post Gossip Column is true, Olbermann will soon enough be drinking only distilled water and rambling on about "precious bodily fluids."

Olbermann - upset to be anchoring at the Democratic National Convention from an outdoor set near Denver's train station - "announced that his bosses [had] better find a more secure location for him to broadcast from at the Republican National Convention [in St. Paul, Minn.] or he's not going," one insider said. "He thinks someone will assassinate him." MSNBC had no comment.

Umm....Keith, you have to be important to even be a target for hitmen, not some one-pump chump who hides from a debate. Also, there are about 8 zillion cops around both convention sites, so I doubt Leon The Professional would even be able to get to you if he wanted to.

It gets better:

Even before he left New York, the biggest mouth at MSNBC was worried about his safety. When a car was late to take him to the airport, Olbermann threatened via e-mail to stay home, another insider told Page Six. The blowhard whined to producers, "I could have been attacked on the street."

This brings to mind two points: Olbermann feels that he is in the same cohort as other true heroes who fought The Man and suffered greatly. People like Mandela, Dr. King, Any Russian/Chinese/Arab blogger facing arrest and torure, John Lewis (who faced Bull Connor's thugs on several occasions), Walesa, and Solzhenitsyn all risked everything to take on oppression or discrimination. Olby is just a 3rd rate failed sports jock who can spew bile from behind a desk without fear of reprisal. And to try to use a word like "assassinate" in relation to his show is an insult to those who really did "speak truth to power".

And secondly, Olbermann must really think he is so important, and so much of a menace to the Chimpy McBushitler that the Secret Service or Blackwater would want to take him out. That alone would be delusional thinking.

What I really think is going on is that somebody at MSNBC, or Olby himself, realized that his tactic of never interviewing a conservative, or having to debate and face live blowback for his words would not hold true this week. He would not be able to go four nights in Minneapolis without having to face a Republican, and somebody at 30 Rock feared something embarassing for the network would take place. And watching their Franchise Player embarass himself would have been a hit MSNBC suits wouldn't have wanted.

But, I just love an ego trip this big. It makes the fall even greater. And, someday, Keith will fall on his face, like he has everywhere else.
