That's what you get for being nice, President Bush

It seems that after Sen. Obama was elected in 2004, President Bush had a group of new lawmakers, including Obama, up to the White House to discuss his agenda.

Bill Sammon recounts this meeting and since it's all worth reading, I'll just give the money quote (emphasis mine):

When I quoted from this passage [from The Audacity of Hope] to Bush during an Oval Office interview, the president seemed irritated to learn he had been taken to task by the senator he once counseled.

I thought I was actually showing some kindness," Bush said indignantly. "And out of that he came with this belief?"

The president added with a bit of a scowl: "He doesn't know me very well."

What's great about that highlighted quote is that it sums up what happens every time President Bush tries to reach across the aisle.
