Roll call time

Time to count heads...how many Democratic politicians have called for a special prosecutor to head the Blagojevich investigation?

Yep, the silence is deafening.  I was going to start a list of politicians who weren't publicly recognizing that the corruption has obviously gone past the capability of any partisan appointee to investigate, but it's just easier at this point to include each and every one of them.

Jesse Jackson Jr might have called for some sort of special investigation this afternoon during his press conference, but it felt to me that he was more outraged that he hadn't played the game well enough.

So how are we, as your average schmoes, supposed to know whether this corruption extends up, down, laterally?  How are we supposed to determine whether the real reason that the seemingly good guy candidates at the grassroots level don't make it any further up is because they're just not good enough, or if there's something more iniquitous at play?  For that matter, how do we know it doesn't extend to both parties, and the pay to play ethic is so widespread that individual politicians give up on personal standards for the greater good of being able to make a large-scale difference in Washington?

I think the only assumption we can make at this point is that any politician that feels a special prosecutor is unnecessary in this case is living in fear themselves, and this goes double and more for any Democratic politician - and especially any Illinois politician, as they are all directly in line to see the perversion of our legal system firsthand.  I hope at least some politicians have the courage to step up and admit what they've seen.  And I'm ashamed for our country that our President-Elect saw fit to endorse and advise someone so corrupt.
