Populist Revolt, Establishment Abdication?

Democrat and Tennessee Representative John Tanner took one look at the gospel singing farmer named Stephen Fincher who lives in Frog Jump (Yes, Really!) Tennessee and decided he wanted none of that, he's not gonna seek another term.  From what I see in google maps, Frog Jump is about two hours northeast of Memphis, out in the middle of nowhere, probably a nice quiet farm town.

I'm thinking a good number of Democrats are gonna retire by the time 2010 rolls through.  The GOP has an opportunity to recover some of what they squandered.  They better not fuck it up either, they're getting a lot of people willing to run and volunteer, and a number of them are gonna be real kickass candidates.

Last quarter Tanner, career politician who's been in Congress since '89 raised $62K last quarter...Fincher, the gospel singing farmer who has never run for office before?  $300K.  Ouch.
