FISA provided the gravity. Apparently, Obama is a centrist with policies just to the right of Hillary Clinton:
It doesn't mean that we should sit out the election or vote McCain. It DOES mean that we have our work cut out for us. Obama isn't a progressive nor did he really ever pretend to be. And, I don't agree with the analysis that he is 'gravatiting center'. I think he is center. He basically mirrors the policy of Clinton, and he leans more conservative then her on health care.
So, what is a progressive democrat to do?
Keep on keeping on. Keep working to get in as many REAL progressives in Senate and Congressional seats as humanly possible. Keep educating the public. Keep protesting. Keep speaking out. And, speak out to OUR leadership when they fail us. It truly is the only thing that seperates us from the Republicans. Silence in the face of such a big failure in our party is a slippery slope into becoming just what we despise.
Is it just me that is enjoying the hell out of this one?
You've got apostates being attacked as "Naderesque crybabies" and hardcore liberal Obamaniacs defending FISA!
I need some popcorn. Or homo meat. Tastykakes?
Update: Wow, two really stupid mistakes in one day. I guess nobody ever said my name wasn't appropriate. It should be hobo meat.
Even worse, now Andrew Sullivan is salivating all over himself.
I quit. You can answer your own stupid questions!
Update: I am pointed to this Chicago Tribune story that puts the degree of leftard opposition to this move into perspective:
That same day, a new online group named "Senator Obama—Please Vote NO on Telecom Immunity—Get FISA Right" formed on his campaign's social networking Web site. Now with more than 22,000 members, it is the largest group on MyBarackObama.com.
The online group is flooded with messages of disappointment and disillusionment. Some threaten to ask that their campaign contributions be returned, while others suggest they will simply stay home this fall.
Larger than the Black Panthers' Group? And what do you think the odds are that any of these college freshmen get their pot money back?
This is, of course, the problem with worshiping a political candidate. It hurts so much when they turn out to be regular, calculating mortals.
