My guess is to clear the path for Cuomo, who stands a much better chance at winning, and would probably be more competent...if you can consider effectively enacting destructive leftist policy "competent."  The sad part of it is that Obama didn't just tell Paterson not to run again, he didn't even do it himself, he had NY Rep. Meeks do it for him.  What a dick.
