Fantasies of fascism
I started watching some of the videos that make up this project on You Tube earlier this evening, and it quickly became apparent that it was some kind of lefty look into the not-too-distant future of Amerikkka, where a massive series of "terrorist" attacks have conveniently resulted in martial law and the suspension of the election's results (gee, I guess that means Captain Bullshit won) for six months so that the Chimpy McBushitler regime can continue to fight the "war." In one of the first episodes, an anti-war reporter is dragged out of bed in the middle of the night by soldiers, and he's later seen out in the desert in an orange jumpsuit being guarded by more soldiers. At this point, I tired of the whole thing and gave up.
If you click on the link, you can look at a story from the Los Angeles Times talking about the disappearance of the reporter, who was doing a series on freedom of speech (can't have that, can we?) and who wrote a book about his experiences as a soldier in Iraq called "Third Time's The Charm" about how many tours of duty it took before he "'woke the [expletive] up' and realized how wrong the Iraq conflict was". Oooh...subversive. There's another article about how "extremist" organizations like the ACLU and (yes, really) the Huffington Post are opposed to new helmet cameras that the thuggish soldiers are using on behalf of Homeland Security. Footage from the helmet cams, which at one point shows laughing soldiers tormenting a drunk woman out in the street, makes up part of the video record of what went wrong, as does video taken by protagonist "Sara Ford," who seems to enjoy prancing about in her underwear (which is enjoyable) when she's not being menaced by soldiers who tell her not to tape things in public because (and I paraphrase) of "Homeland Security" and because "nobody wants to see what's going on" in L.A. under martial law.
There are also clips of teevee interviews where a journalist is silenced after asking the Homeland Security Secretary if we are "in the midst of a coup"—the network later breaks in and apologizes for the interviewer asking questions that are "divisive" before giving lip service to an apparently government-approved slogan, "KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE, AMERICA!"
Etc.
Is it just me, or are these people completely invested in the idea that Bush is a fascist and that only brave truth-tellers like them can save the country? I wonder, what's going to happen when he leaves the White House in January and life goes on as it always has? I mean, they're almost going to be disappointed, aren't they?
By the way: I didn't bother looking at the comments for most of the You Tube episodes, but the comments on episode five are a lot of fun.
Update: Our heroine, in the next few episodes, meets up with some AWOL soldiers, one of whom seems to have been driven insane by his combat mission. Pretty original.
And I didn't mention it before, but the "news" updates are now being provided by HNS, the "Homeland News Services" network, which has military personnel on the air, reading news. Wake up, sheeple, or this is what's going to happen!
