Because San Francisco just isn't liberal enough, apparently

An article from yesterday's San Francisco Chronicle titled "S.F. Democrats take a sharp turn to the left" (I know, that could happen?) details a slap-fight between the party's County Central Committee (dominated by hard-core lefties) and Mayor Gavin Newsom (comparatively moderate, I guess). Committee Chairman Aaron Peskin is quoted:

"We saw over the last many years disenchantment by Democratic Party activists who felt the past policies of the local party were out of step with San Francisco's Democratic values," he said. "We're reaching out to people who were turned off, but we're not alienating people who have been party stalwarts for decades."
And what are some of those San Francisco "Democratic values" that the committee has been wrangling over? Well, according to the article, they're supporting one ballot measure that would decriminalize prostitution and another that would kick JROTC out of the city's public schools "because of the program's military connections."

You just can't make this stuff up.  Seriously.
