There's tons of comedy gold here, particularly the part about Chip Cronkite sending an email to the NYT ahead of time to warn about errors. 

However, there's a serious part to this too.  The Times did this in an article about someone that the MSM considered a legend.  The Times did this to a person the MSM all but worships.  But we're totally supposed to just believe that everything else isn't this full of Fail.  Uh.  Huh. 

There's also the "joke" quote in the ashtray Cronkite had "“Just give me the facts: I’ll mix ’em up when I quote you.”"  Frankly, that certainly seems the way that the quotations are handled. 

But still.  This is point and laugh funny.  ha HA!

Name That Party! Baltimore edition

I've read through this article about the Mayor of Baltimore three times, and I can't help but notice that something seems to be missing. Hmmmmmmm...

The two new indictments handed down by a grand jury reinstate perjury charges against Dixon and include new allegations about gifts she may have received but failed to disclose.

In total, the mayor is currently charged with three counts of theft, two counts perjury, three counts of fraudulent misappropriation and one count of misconduct.

Her political affiliation must be some sort of closely guarded secret. Oh, wait...

When former Mayor Martin O'Malley was sworn in as Governor on January 17, 2007, Dixon, a Democrat, became mayor and served out the remaining year of O'Malley's term. In November 2007, she was elected mayor in her own right and is currently serving her first term.

I can't help but think that if she was a Republican, that might just be prominently mentioned.

Hahahahaha! Who am I kidding? A real Republican (as opposed to, say, Nanny Bloomberg) as the mayor of a major American city? Not bloody likely.

You've all probably seen the Hot Air link to the Politico story about Obama now refunding illegal contributrions.

It's funny for so many reasons (Including how so many of us were screaming about his illegal fundraising), but I'm going to just look at one aspect and it involves making fun of Politico.

Bias in the news media is hardly limited to the press here in the States, as the opening paragraph of this AFP article about an attempt to break a record for the world's biggest cheesecake demonstrates:

Palestinians with a sweet-tooth gathered on Saturday around a giant syrupy cheesecake treat they hope will set a new Guinness world record in their occupied West Bank city.

Anybody notice the one little unnecessary word that they included there? The one that has nothing to do with the cheesecake or the record?

So. Ezra Klein decided he gets to set the rules for using the CBO report to criticize the Dems healthcare plan.

Let me think really really hard *taps chin*. How about you bite me, Ezra?  Sure, it's nice when someone opposing a plan proposes an alternative.  But it's not a requirement.  Plus there's the fact that I don't remember you getting elected as Healthcare Debate God.  So.  You know.  See re:  bite me. 

This is one of the things that I detest the most, these attempts to claim that debates on issues must only take place in certain ways.  Yeah.  No.  Not at all.  Someone here at work who is not overly political was going on and on and on about illegal immigration (she's against it).   She made a comment that there's going to be hell to pay soon.  I asked her why and she began telling me all about how her friends and family are sick and tired of being told that their concerns are not only irrelevant but wrong.  I know, I know, the plural of anecdote is not data but there sure as hell seems to be a lot of people out there furious about how our elected representatives are acting.  Hell, a local state rep around here is now in a world of hurt due to the self-dealing that's being uncovered.  And this is a guy who is considered untouchable.  There was a protest yesterday and one of the leaders commented that he's sick of the politicians acting like they're nobles.  There's a lot of that feeling going around and I think the backlash is coming.

Hmmm.  That wandered a bit.  Just imagine a nice IDF babe here to make up for it.

Here is the actual front-page, above the fold headline in Politico this morning: "Was Carter Right? Three decades later the "Malaise" speech wears well."

I shit you not.  Pardon me if I'm wrong, but wasn't his attitude in this speech (as well as the pessimistic outlook contained therein) one of the many things that helped kill his chances at reelection? 

But since New Jesus mirrors Jimmy Carter in so many ways, I guess that means that Carter, and everything he did as President, must have been super duper double awesome as well.

Anyway, consider this your Monday morning dose of ULTRAFAIL.

P.S. - I should also mention that in addition to this article, an article bashing Palin appears above the fold, while the Sotomayor hearings get one paragraph below the fold.  I didn't watch any of it, but I suppose that means she didn't do very well.

What's the matter with the WSJ?

Thomas Frank, most famous for insulting the most middle of Middle American states, goes after Sarah Palin in his WSJ column:

This is no small thing, mind you. The piling-up of petty complaints is an important aspect of conservative movement culture. For those who believe that American life consists of the trampling of Middle America by the "elites" -- that our culture is one big insult to the pious and the patriotic and the traditional -- Sarah Palin's long list of unfair and disrespectful treatment is one of her most attractive features. Like Oliver North, Robert Bork, and Clarence Thomas, she is known not for her ideas but as a martyr, a symbol of the culture-war crimes of the left.

But of course. She has no ideas. I mean, just to pick one of her non-ideas, she has never advocated expanded oil drilling as a way to make America more independent from foreign sources of oil.

Frank goes on to claim that Palin was set up as "a candidate on a cross" for the kind of rubes he has based his career on:

Resentment was, for example, the most-noticed theme in her famous speech at the Republican convention in September, when she introduced herself to America by taking umbrage at those Democrats who "seem to look down on" small-town ways.

Frank belittles Palin's treatment at the hands of the MSM and Democrats (bIrm) as having a thin skin. Okay, let's suppose that's true. But let's ask him a few questions...

Since you're a public figure, what with your bestselling book and your column in the WSJ and all, would you be happy if a lot of people throughout the MSM repeatedly suggested that you were stupid?

If someone was to suggest that you had behaved in an unethical manner while writing your books or columns without any basis, would you be upset?

If MSM organizations flew teams into your hometown to investigate your every last move, would you feel like you were being singled out?

If a bunch of batshit crazy conspiracy theorists scrutinized the birth of your kids and publicized their insane theories, is that something you might object to?

Obama Has Weightier Issues To Avoid And Ignore Than This One.

When asked by media hack about Wacko Jacko's death, The Hip Prez had this to say:

But in an interview with The Associated Press Thursday, Obama said he didn't see any controversy in the fact that he did not issue a formal public statement upon Jackson's death. Obama said, "Look, you're the first person who's actually asked me about it."

I hate to say it, but I kinda, sorta have to give President Obama a pass on this one. Seriously, who gives a flying fuck what the President (of either party) has to say about an entertainer's death? If the President issues a statement, fine by me. If he doesn't, fine by me too. I mean, he has more serious issues to avoid and ignore than whether or not he should say something official about Michael Jackson. Korea? Iran? Taxes? Jobs? Fuck that shit! Let's ask him about a washed up freak show who died last week.

And who is the stupid fuckstick who decided it was important to raise a stink with the President of the United States because he didn't say or do something not related to upholding his oath of office and keeping the country safe? What's next? Asking Obama about Brad and Angelina? Or his take on Jon & Kate? The AP reporter would have been better off asking about ice cream or golf than Jacko.

But, I guess that exemplifies how fucking stupid and celebrity obsessed the media is today. They fucking ask the fucking President of the United States a dipshit question like this, when they could have or should have grilled him about what he plans to do about the issues I mentioned above? All Presidents have to do fluff pieces once in a while, but this guy is being treated as though he is the hip new singer busting onto the charts. To make matters worse, and more irresponsible of the media, is that shit like this eats up what little time they have with the President, leading them to avoid holding him accountable for his deeds and words on issues that are life or death type stuff. Instead, we get the Tiger Beat Poster Treatment of this guy, or stacked interviews like the one he did with ABC or the HuffPo guy.

This retardation to eleven is why I hate damn near every media member out there.

I love Sullivan's Island, SC

I used to vacation close to there in high school and it was always incredibly relaxing.  Now, as Jenny Sanford and her boys seek refuge there, the citizens are making me happy.  Fun with media, indeed:

Media now pushing "Jamaican gangs buying guns from US civilian market" lie

Well, the 90% of guns used in crime in Mexico lie didn't work, so I guess they're trying a different approach.  The good news is that people seem to be ignoring the propaganda, and pretty much recognize it as propaganda, or at least realize it smells a little bullshitty.  Beyond that, flooding the zone with these stupid stories reeks of desperation, the gun control movement is getting its ass handed to itself on nearly every front, outside of a few authoritarian hellholes like NY, NJ, CA and IL, but even there, sometimes you can find a little hope now and then.

I hope Michael Yon doesn't make an ass of himself boosting this lie, too.

Some Insight Into Health Care Polling

Almost as if on cue, with Obama's health care overhaul facing several roadblocks and mounting opposition from within his own party, the NY Times and CBS run a poll that, shockingly, is favorable to Obama.

Well, a little insight to the polling numbers reveals that, also shockingly, the NYT/CBS may have gamed the numbers just a bit.

BUT, according to the actual poll data, of the 73% of respondents who said they voted in 2008 only 34% voted for McCain and 66% for Obama.  The actual vote was 46% (corrected) McCain.  So, 29% of McCain voters ignored by the poll must not be Americans, according to the NYTs methodology, and there are about as much an overpolling of  Obama voters

Anything to advance an agenda, I guess.

He's not a fan

I know this isn't a sports-related blog, I don't really care about the NBA, and I'm not usually the type of guy who sticks up for overpaid pro athletes, but bear with me here...

In the wake of last night's NBA Championship win, T.J. Simers of the Los Angeles (!) Times wrote a bilious screed against the Lakers that has me wondering whether or not some of the players ganged up and gave him a swirlie in the locker room at some point. Case in point:

How many times were we told that Kobe wanted this more than anyone else, his teeth gritted as if there was nothing more important in the whole world than a basketball game?

Um, the man is a professional basketball player. What do you think his main focus is supposed to be? Yeah, there are more important things in the world, but I think I can forgive the man for wanting to win.
