Look in the mirror

Where to even fucking start?

What's most distinctive about the American press is not its freedom but its century-old tradition of independence—that it serves the public interest rather than those of parties, persuasions, or pressure groups. Media independence is a 20th-century innovation that has never fully taken root in many other countries that do have a free press. The Australian-British-continental model of politicized media that Murdoch has applied at Fox is un-American, so much so that he has little choice but go on denying what he's doing as he does it. For Murdoch, Ailes, and company, "fair and balanced" is a necessary lie. To admit that their coverage is slanted by design would violate the American understanding of the media's role in democracy and our idea of what constitutes fair play. But it's a demonstrable deceit that no longer deserves equal time.
There is a kind of willful blindness among these MSM jagoffs that is just incredible. Just marvel at that paragraph for a moment. It was written by a guy, who, we're told at the end of the piece, is the author of The Bush Tragedy. Which is a truly fair and balanced look at our last president, I'm sure.

Yeah.

I'll forgo the history lesson that Weisberg is obviously ignoring here in order to point out that his colleagues have been carrying water for the Democrat party for decades now. Oh, I'm sure he'd deny that, seeing as how he wouldn't dare to participate in a "politicized media" of the "Australian-British-continental" sort that he scorns, but here's the thing, Jacob...

Conduct an informal poll of your co-workers there at Newsweek. Ask them who they voted for last November. Or in November, 2004. Or in November, 2000. Or...you get the idea.

No, you don't? Why am I not the least bit surprised?

Good interview...

...with Andrew Breitbart in the WSJ:

Mr. Breitbart claims victory, and in extravagant terms: "At every step of the way, we were correct. At every step of the way, the mainstream media took the lies of Acorn. At every step of the way, the mainstream media attempted to cover up for Acorn. . . . If they think that Acorn or the Democratic Party or the NEA or the Office of Public Engagement is the primary target, they couldn't be more wrong. It is the Democrat-media complex. It is the mainstream media. No jury would need more evidence at this point. The Clark Hoyts of the world should just put their pens down and retire right now and walk away. They lost."
I'd tell you to read the whole thing, but I realize that I ain't the boss of you.

Fuck You, CNN!

Fuck you and your corpse sodomizing goatse practitioners with a shop vac loaded with glass bits that alternates between suck and blow. Fuck you for waiting until after Rush Limbaugh was dropped by the potential Rams ownership group to retract your fucking lies. And fuck you for trying to claim you are nothing more than kneepad wearing Obama swallowing assfisters.

This is why I hate the media. They fucking think they are above the law and can retreat back to retractions and claims of "sloppying editing" when called out for their mendacity. So die from a snake bite to your cock, all of you. And spread the disease to your coworkers.

Quote of the Day: Digging

The Quote of the Day is from E.J. Dionne, who said this on today's Meet the Press:

When you are in a hole economically, you need to dig out. That's a time when you need government.

My response:

Other Meet the Press runners up for Quote of the Day below the fold, mostly Rachel Maddow getting a well-deserved slap-down...

Okay, I'm impressed

I am not a huge Glenn Beck fan, I don't dislike him, I just have my reservations regarding him, and did so before anyone knew who the fuck he was.  Nonetheless, beating your competitors combined for a month solid, and for almost a week's worth of days doubling them is pretty damned impressive.  Now I just gotta figure out how to do that here...

ObamaTo The Press: The Envelope Is On The Dresser

Good grief. I love mocking the media over something such as this, considering how they helped shill shamelessly for The One.

The New York Times reports today White House officials told congressional leaders they opposed the legislation pending in the Senate Judiciary Committee that would shield reporters from jail time for failing to reveal sources. The Times cites "several people involved with the negotiations."

It adds that the administration sent to Congress "sweeping revisions" to the bill that "would significantly weaken its protections against forcing reporters to testify."

The current form has provisions requiring prosecutors to "exhaust other methods for finding the source of the information before subpoenaing a reporter, and would balance investigators' interests with 'the public interest in gathering news and maintaining the free flow of information.'"

But under the administration's proposal, those procedures would not apply to leaks of a matter deemed to cause "significant" harm to national security, the Times reported.

Hah!

Quote of the Day: Sexytime

Quote of the day is Reason's headline for a blog post entitled....
"Gwen Ifill: I Did Not Know "Teabagging" Meant Sexytime"

This Quote of the Day was almost overshadowed by the first comment on that post:

"The poor Reason intern who had to do a Google image search on "teabagging" finally came through with a winner after viewing thirty pages of gay porn.

He (or she) paid the ultimate price for libertarian journalism."

Indeed.

Time Mag spinning yarns into gold

I suggest reading Time Magazine's cover story on Glenn Beck if only to appreciate how much the "mainstream" media misses the mark. (I'm not exactly a huge Beck fan, but the enemy of my enemy is my friend.)

Time "calling out" a "yarn" of Beck's:

Some days "they" are the network of leftist community organizers known as ACORN — and his indictment of the group is looking stronger every day. But he also spins yarns of less substance. He tells his viewers that Obama's volunteerism efforts are really an attempt to create a "civilian national-security force that is just as strong, just as powerful as the military."

How much of a "yarn" is this? Well, Beck didn't exactly pull it out of thin air...

Ya know, sometimes Beck is right. It would be nice if media outlets actually checked their stories before accusing somebody of spinning a "yarn".

To paraphrase Joe Wilson: Time, you lie!

Strange headline of the day

From the Christian Science Monitor, we have:

Obama and Bill Clinton eat food (fish and pasta - not McRibs)

This raises a few interesting questions. First of all, why is it noteworthy that Obama and Clinton ate "food"? Also, is the McRib something other than "food"? And does the CSM know something about these two issues that we don't?

Matt Cooper: Dirty fucking rat

You knew that, but I can't even believe he said this shit,

It feels a bit like 9/11 on Martha's Vineyard. End-of-summer weather is achingly beautiful but the mood is melancholy because of Teddy.

Yeah, just like 9/11, Matt.  Just like it.

That Obama-as-The Joker poster artist?

Well, it must be some racist white guy who's some kind of an anti-Obama racist, right? Right?

I'm sure the critics who assumed that it was some kind of racist slur against President Obama will step up and admit that they were wrong.

Yeah.

Oh, so now we're concerned with violent rhetoric?

Oh noes! Rush Limbaugh said mean things and now someone is going to shoot the President!.

I want to make something clear, I most certainly hope that the windowlicking, slackjawed, mouthbreathing idiot who showed up with the death to Obama and death to his family signs got investigated, up to and including anal probing, by the Secret Service.  I mean that's kinda, sorta, just a tiny bit of a red flag that maybe you should be having a chat with the nice lads and ladies with the shades, ear pieces and weaponry.  And then possibly accidentally fall down a few flights of stairs after the interview.  Just.  Sayin'.

However, I find it beyond fucking rich that all the hand wringing is about the violent rhetoric aimed at Obama.  What about the violent rhetoric aimed at me by those who do have the power to completely fuck with my life?  Let's see, Nancy Pelosi thinks I'm unAmerican.  Harry Reid thinks I'm an evilmonger.  There was the lovely comment that we're all like Timothy McVeigh.  There's the racist accusations.  There's the comments about how this is the civil rights era and references to Bull Connor and the dogs and the hoses.  But ABC sure as motherfucking hell doesn't seem to give a single shit that politicians are fucking attacking their bosses for having the fucking audacity to stand up and disagree.

Fuck.  Them.  All.  Seriously.  Fuck them all with the barbed cock of Satan (hint for the reading comprehension impaired - HYPERBOLE NOT A THREAT FOR FUCK'S SAKE YOU SUBCRETINOUS ILLITERATE JACKHOLES)  You want to know why people are full of the ragey rage?  Because Minitru sure as fuck didn't give a shit about the rhetoric about killing Bush.  And Minitru sure as fuck doesn't seem to care that Nancy Pelosi, that brain dead botox container, STARTED THE NAZI SHIT.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.  Alexsmash.

What liberal media?

Granted, this is NBC we're talking about here, but they're not even making an attempt to hide it anymore:

Barack Obama's campaign slogan "Yes we can!" became "Yes we did!" on November 4, 2008, thrilling his supporters nationwide.

Evidently, NBC also was quite pleased with the win, and the news network is still celebrating.

NBC is selling "YES WE DID" t-shirts online as well as at its Manhattan company store in Rockefeller Center.

"We," NBC? Do you have a mouse in your pocket or are you just admitting how deep you're in the tank for Obama?

Yeah, I think I'm gonna go with the latter. And seeing as how NBC (along with most of the MSM) chose to sit on their hands when they could have been doing their jobs by vetting the empty suit who now occupies the Oval Office, I'd say the "We" is entirely appropriate.

(Via Treacher, who has a suggestion for a new design that may be on the racks in the not-too-distant future.)

Hey, dumbass!

Yeah Kathleen, I'm talking to you. You just beclowned yourself.

(I know, shocking, huh?)

Update: A thought just occurred to me: If "conservative" columnist Kathleen actually bothered to pay attention to, you know, conservative blogs and websites, she wouldn't have included such a stupid, shopworn lie in her column.

Gee, I wonder who she's actually listening to.

Fair and Balanced

No, I'm not talking about Fox News here. It's Politico, which uses absolutely neutral language in an article about Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachman (with my emphasis):

Democrats will have plenty of ammunition in their effort to cast Bachmann as an out-of-control ideologue.

In June, during a diatribe in a House floor speech on the size of the federal government, Bachmann derided what she called Obama's "gangster government."

No, it wasn't just a speech. They weren't just her remarks. It was a diatribe. Frankly, I'm disappointed that the writer, Alex Isenstadt, didn't mention that she was frothing at the mouth.

Bless you Tapper

(even if he's being a bit of a snarky bitch on twitter but hey who am I to whine about being a snarky bitch on twitter)

From today's Q&A at the White House:

TAPPER: The DNC put out a video earlier this week basically saying all of the protesters were birth certificate-denying, angry mob, hordes. I mean, it wasn't exactly a video that described the protesters in accordance with the respect and dignity you just spoke of.

GIBBS: Well, again, I think we've seen -- as you mentioned, we've seen some stuff that I think is -- I mentioned it a week ago, I think, or maybe it was earlier this week. It all sort of blurs together. You know, that we've all seen imagery that really just shocks and surprises us. I think the best thing to do is to take that temperature down a bit.

Why is this bless you Tapper? Because at least he freaking asked Gibbs about it. Plus, you know, always fun to see Gibbs getting kicked in the head about stuff. But maybe that's just me.

Also, I love love love Gibbs all oh we have to take the temperature down a bit after the motherfucking ass fucks at the DNC called all of us Birthers. Nice. Real nice.

I do think a tipping point has come and people are just sick to death of being kicked in the teeth. At a certain point, being called a Nazi Racist Birther stops having any meaning and become white noise. I think we're at that point.

I love the smell of butthurt hipsters in the morning

The Washington Post's Monica Hesse decided to spend her week writing about how a once-hipsterish neighborhood now has - gasp - development!:

For the hipsters, post-hipsters or quasi-hipsters who moved into Columbia Heights several years ago for the grit and the cheap rent and the proximity to the Wonderland Ballroom (the hipster, post-hipster or quasi-hipster bar that sponsors local music and nights like "Sundress Fest"), life can be divided into two discrete phases: Before Target. After Target.
Say it ain't so!  Being able to purchase things when you want them, without taking 2-3 metro stops?  How shudder suburban*. Anyway, she tries to bring balance by noting that, thank God, people still get stabbed in her quaint little neighborhood:
Columbia Heights is still edgy. A few blocks from the Target, semi-permanent police cars monitor the muggings and shootings that still happen, in broad daylight, even -- as happened a few weeks ago -- at the Metro.
Thank Heavens for small favors, eh?  I have to go eat a (horrible tasting) salad for lunch right now, though, so I'll let DCist pick up where I left off.  And Monica, if you're reading, you need to chill, hun.  There are plenty of edgy, crime-ridden abodes in Anacostia if that's what you're looking for.

*Confession: I consider North Arlington the 'burbs, and do make fun of people who live there.  So, I suppose I shouldn't cast too many stones at Ms. Hesse.  But still...
