The House GOP may do something smart for a change

Namely, depriving kleptocrat Rep. Don Young of a few committee chairmanships.

One informs us that in a meeting this afternoon, Boehner told Young that he would not support his bid to remain Ranking Member on the House Natural Resources Committee, and that it was unlikely that the Steering Committee would either. Another tells us that although he did not officially request the Resources post, Rep. Doc Hastings (R-Wash.) is likely to get it because there will be no vacancy for the Rules committee post he was seeking.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Louisiana runoff results

The GOP won two seats in Congress in Louisiana's runoff elections today.

1) Joseph Cao knocked out Rep. William "Cold Cash" Jefferson to become the first person to represent New Orleans in Congress since 1891.

2) Republican John Fleming won a seat in the 4th District by 356 votes.  There will probably be a recount.

Here's the CNN write-up of Jefferson's loss.

Who was the unnamed GOP Senator?

Remember the GOP Senator who thought that the Party's problem was that it wasn't moderate enough?

RedState thinks it was Mel Martinez.

Mel Martinez to step down

Good riddance, but let's hope we end up with a somewhat decent replacement.
