Closing Velocity

I wanted to give Cuffy's new project a plug, because I think it'll be a valuable tool to have when the issue of missile defense comes up.  Cuffy works for a contractor that works on development for our missile defense program, so he has a true insider perspective, be sure to keep Closing Velocity bookmarked.  I'll update the moronroll when I'm not feeling lazy and remember to update it.

Blogger Down! Blogger Down!

Last night, I was over at my parents' house for the evening portion of Thanksgiving. All was well and good, until I volunteered to help bring up the leftovers from the basement refrigerator.

I had in one hand the glass bowl of stuffing. As I started to walk up the steps, I tripped upward, dropped the glass bowl, which then broke, with my momentum causing me to fall hands first onto the glass.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!!

I never knew what having a giant shard of glass in my bloody hand felt like until last night. Now I do, and I never want to have that happen again. All the while, my cousin's twin boys just stared at the carnage, saying, "Wow! That looks like it hurts." Ahh. 8 year olds!

Anyway, no stitches were needed, but I do need to keep it heavily bandaged until a good scab develops, and my typing has to be curtailed, so I may be away for a while.

And what really sucks is that my injured hand is my right hand, which I use for "cleaning the prostate".

Moron of the Day: A Day at the Museum

Did you know that the Field Museum in Chicago allowed after-hours private parties for college students? I didn't but I'm glad they do:

Students of Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management reportedly got drunk, vomited on the floor, spit at people, passed out and threw things at Sue herself.

"There was definitely some inappropriate behavior that occurred at the event,'' said Northwestern spokesman Al Cubbage.

In an e-mail reprimand to her fellow students, Andrea Hanson, a vice president of the Kellogg Student Association, called the Sept. 26 party "an embarrassment.''

Hanson declined to elaborate Thursday, but in the e-mail to classmates she described how drunken students -- "already too overserved" -- forced the Field Museum to shut down the open bar to try to calm the situation.

Students smuggled in alcohol -- filling trash cans with empty bottles -- and some students "passed out in high-traffic areas,'' wrote Hanson, adding that "students were throwing things at a historic artifact: Sue, the Tyrannosaurus rex, which the Field Museum purchased for over $8.3 million.''

Reportedly, they won't be allowed to return without "Breathalyzers, high security, and chaperones."
