Sigh. A Second Decider Calling For Bush To Leave Office Early.

First, the Moron In Chief mentioned Gail Collins of the NY Times calling for Bush to leave office early.

Now, some twit at ABC News is doing the same.

KATE SNOW: You write a lot in your columns about a power vacuum in these last couple of months of the Bush administration.  How concerned are you about that?  Do you think President-elect Obama should be doing something now, urgently, as far as forcing policy change?

PAUL KRUGMAN: Well, there's only, as he says, and it's true.  There's only one president at a time. We have this Constitution, and he hasn't taken office.

And when Paul Krugman has to calm you down, that's a sign you have issues.


Folks, seeming similarities in talk between different media critters doesn't happen in a vacuum.

Just "airing a theory".

Grimm outlook

In a column on a coming "invasion" of Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches in yesterday's Miami Herald, Fred Grimm writes:

At times, for reasons unclear to entomologists, the whole damn colony erupts in a hissy fit. Sort of like the crowd at a Sarah Palin campaign rally. And almost as creepy.

See how clever Fred is? He just implied that the people who attended Sarah Palin rallies during the campaign are worse than vermin. Ah, the great post-partisan healing of the Era of Obama continues. Can you feel the love?

Who?  Possible RNC Chairman Michael Steele (links in the original, emphasis mine):

Republican National Committee Chairman candidate Michael S. Steele castigated Republican Party leadership Tuesday for having a "country club" mentality and being out of touch, and said if he is chosen to represent the party, he will help transform it into an inspiring choice for young and minority voters.

[...]

"The problem is that within the operations of the RNC, they don't give a damn. It's all about outreach ... and outreach means let's throw a cocktail party, find some black folks and Hispanics and women, wrap our arms around them - 'See, look at us,' " he said.

"And then we go back to same old, same old. There's nothing that is driven down to the state party level, where state chairmen across the country, to the extent they don't appreciate it, are helped to appreciate the importance of African-Americans and women and others coming and being a part of this party, and to the extent that they do appreciate it, are given support and backup to generate their own programs to create this relationship."

Concerned Christian (don't know if he's a Conservative) Lawrence L. Graham of Dunwoody, GA writes the following missive to the Los Angeles Times:

I am a Bible-believing Christian, and I am here to tell you that the wildfires are a judgment on the bigots of California who passed Proposition 8 in order to deny a minority of Californians their human rights.

Don't let's all hold our breath waiting for all the people quoted in this article to condemn Lawrence's "outrageous affront to religion," m'kay?

MSNBC blatantly lied about Palin's world knowledge

I'm not giving them the benefit of the doubt here. For MSNBC to run with a story that a governor of a state, who is likely to be the new leader of the Republican party, doesn't know basic geography, is beyond irresponsible. (Like my run-on sentence there? There's just no way to wrap the absurdity into a neat little package.)

David Shuster, an anchor for the cable news network, said on air Monday that Martin Eisenstadt, a McCain policy adviser, had come forth and identified himself as the source of a FOX News Channel story saying Palin had mistakenly believed Africa was a country instead of a continent.

Eisenstadt identifies himself on a blog as a senior fellow at the Harding Institute for Freedom and Democracy. Yet neither he nor the institute exist; each is part of a hoax dreamed up by a filmmaker named Eitan Gorlin and his partner, Dan Mirvish, the New York Times reported Wednesday.

The article goes on to point out that Eisenstadt has pulled previous hoaxes, including putting one over on the Huffington Post, Mother Jones, and blogs for the LA Times and The New Republic.

I don't think MSNBC can call itself a news source anymore.  I'm more inclined to think of it as a gossip rag.

Who are you gonna believe?

Your lying eyes and ears or one of the more liberal newspapers in this country?

The San Francisco Chronicle tries to make the case that assertions about Barack Obama "palling around" with an unrepentant terrorist and that he's a socialist are "smears" that "still packed a powerful half-life" even after the campaign was over.

I'm not going to re-hash the Ayers stuff, seeing as how everyone who's reading this is likely familiar with it, chapter and verse, but it's interesting (if not surprising) how the Chron went about discussing the "socialist" charge:

After McCain conceded, Jonathan Stonham spoke of how gracious McCain's speech was. Then, as did many others who saw the speech at the Biltmore, he began to process his feelings after the long campaign. As any supporter of a losing candidate would be, he was frustrated, angry, sad and a bit apprehensive of the future.

"I can't believe this guy is going to be president. He's a socialist," said Stonham, a 31-year-old software engineer from Phoenix. "He wants to turn us into a Western European socialist state."

This smear was first voiced by the accidental hero of the GOP, Samuel J. Wurzelbacher, a.k.a. Joe the Plumber. Then Palin picked it up, replacing her previous Obama smear - that he liked to "pal around with" with terrorists like Ayers - a charge disproved by several independent fact-checking organizations. So Palin kept quoting Joe the Plumber calling Obama a socialist, as though the unlicensed plumber's name was Joe the Political Theorist.

Never mind the fact that the writer doesn't bother to cite any of those "independent fact-checking organizations," let's look at the "smear" Sarah Palin "picked..up," shall we?

Now, this guy, Joe (OMG, that's not really his real first name!) the Plumber asked The One, who stopped by Joe's neighborhood for a photo op, a question about His proposed tax policies.

As you'll see if you watch the clip, He talks a lot about those proposed tax policies, mentioning that if Joe (not his first name, mind you, like he's got something to hide) had been making less a few years back, Obama's tax policies would have helped him out then. Had they been in place, they would have helped "Joe" out. By spreading the wealth from someone who finds himself in Joe Samuel's place right about now to someone who wasn't quite in his current position. The position where he's saved enough money to buy the business he's worked hard for. From each according to...Sarah Palin smear!

At this point, does the Chronicle writer take a step back and consider whether or not this is a "smear"? Of course not.  The writer mentions the following...

A real socialist, as Gloria LaRiva, the Party for Socialism and Liberation presidential candidate, told The Chronicle, does not pal around with capitalists - like Warren Buffet, the man at the top of Obama's Transition Economic Advisory Board.

Sure. Because a socialist has never seen a capitalist as a Useful Idiot. Nope.

Michael Malone, who wrote that fab piece about media bias, has a pretty meta piece discussing the mechanics of how he wrote it and what happened when it was picked up by the blogosphere. Article here.

The most interesting part of it to me? This sentence "Then came Matt Drudge - the single most influential journalist in America."

I find that a fascinating admission.  Whatever you think of Drudge, and I'm rather ambivalent about him, the fact is that he drives hits and he's fully capable of setting the terms of the argument.  For a former old school journalist to recognize and admit this is interesting.
