Our new Secretary of Education knows how to save money
Chicago Public Schools, which until recently was headed by our soon-to-be Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, demonstrated an amazing ability to cut through red tape and get things done by spending $67,000 for 30 cappucino/espresso machines. To bypass competitive bidding rules, the district bought them using purchase orders from 21 different vo-tech schools, bringing the cost of each order below $10,000. It is estimated that the district paid $12,000 over what would have been paid with a bulk discount.
Unfortunately, many of the machines are going to waste. Why?

Unfortunately, many of the machines are going to waste. Why?
"We also look at it as a waste of money because the schools didn't even know they were getting the equipment, schools didn't know how to use the machines and weren't prepared to implement them into the curriculum," Sullivan said.I'm certain that, once all the shop teachers are prepared to implement caffeination into their curriculum, they will be excited to have students hopped up on java in shop classes with sharp objects and power tools.
