See? He really *does* have a plan!

Apparently President Obama has had his head on straight the entire time regarding management of the oil spill.  The Wall Street Journal reports that the nation's GDP could actually grow a smidge thanks to the fact that the spill has gotten to the point where the damage control and cleanup will generate more economic activity than the number of jobs destroyed.

The six-month moratorium on deep-water drilling may cut U.S. oil production by around 3% in 2011 and cost more than 3,000 jobs, according to J.P. Morgan’s energy analysts.

Commercial fishing in the Gulf is also likely to suffer, but that’s only about 0.005% of U.S. GDP. The impact on tourism is the hardest to measure, although it’s fair to expect that many hotel workers who lose their jobs will find it hard to get new ones.

Still, cleaning up the spill will likely be enough to slightly offset the negative impact of all this on GDP, J.P. Morgan said. The bank cites estimates of 4,000 unemployed people hired for the cleanup efforts, which some reports have said could be worth between $3 and $6 billion.

Up next in Obama's plan to end the recesssion:

• Burn down the national parks to create more firefighting jobs
• Increase the actual dollars that gas stations receive for every gallon of gas, because everyone knows that it's all about the income and not the profit margin
• Teach our children to be Obama scholars, because knowing how to organize a community generates more revenue than doing something that actually, ya know, produces something
• And a bonus from beyond-RINO Joseph Cao (see, Obama's so wise he's got bipartisan support!): encourage the suicide of company executives to make room for the unemployed in the payroll

I probably should have started drinking before I wrote this

I'll admit, I didn't listen to the entire speech Sir Golfs-A-Lot gave regarding the oil spill, because I just can't drink that much and still have a liver.  But I've skimmed enough articles about it now to pretend to sorta have an idea of what was said.  So with that in mind, I have a few thoughts...

I'm not surprised we have an oil spill czar.  What I find surprising, given Obama's previous track record of choosing czars, is that it's not Joseph Hazelwood.  What I don't find surprising is that the oil spill czar is in charge of dishing out other people's money instead of actually working on finding a solution.

I'm not surprised that Obama thinks that "what every American wants and expects is accountability", by which he means a payday.  I wish that Obama realized that what every person wants at the end of the day is the mess cleaned up, and for the feds to do something other than threaten to kick ass and pass out money to the victims of this disaster.  I'd be willing to bet at least a bottle of Val-U-Rite that most of the people out of work due to the oil spill would rather have a living than a payout.

Apparently we've seceded part of Arizona to Mexico

But I thought it was the Hispanics who were complaining that those pesky Americans were making Arizona a hostile place for them to be...

About 3,500 acres of southern Arizona have been closed off to U.S. citizens due to increased violence at the U.S.-Mexico border, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The closed off area includes part of the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge that stretches along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu told Fox News that violence against law enforcement officers and U.S. citizens has increased in the past four months, forcing officers on an 80 mile stretch of Arizona land north of the Mexico border off-limits to Americans.

The refuge had been adversely affected by the increase in drug smugglers, illegal activity and surveillance, which made it dangerous for Americans to visit.

"The situation in this zone has reached a point where continued public use of the area is not prudent," said refuge manager Mitch Ellis.

Can someone explain to me how this is not turning rapidly into an 'us or them' situation?

Nope, no overblown sense of entitlement here

I've given up trying to reconcile the attempts by Obama to look so hip that he's dragging the Queen of England into the tech world and his statements that he doesn't know how to use an iPod, so let's spend a few minutes ripping on his administration for stealing what the rest of us have to pay for.

If this keeps up, we'll have 50 independent states rather than a union.  Which isn't a bad thing, necessarily, when the leader of your union is hellbent on destroying it.  Next up, Oklahoma and its floods.

Is he really leaving for Hollywood, has he been thrown under the bus, or are rats leaving the sinking ship?  I think it's probably too much to hope that after a year, he's realized that Obama's not going to do anything notable regarding gay rights, lest allegations of coked-out rides in limos resurface.

Kal Penn, best known as the latter half of stoner duo "Harold and Kumar," is reportedly leaving his White House post as associate director of public engagement to make a return to the Silver Screen.

While I was stuck lying on the couch a couple of weeks ago nomming Flexeril like they were candy, I re-watched season 5 of House, and found myself contemplating how far Kutner had come, from having a role on a critically acclaimed, nationally syndicated show with 12 million viewers to being the sad guy sitting on a stool in a bar in DC*, sucking down drinks and hitting on guys by asking them, "Hey, wanna see my stethoscope?" or maybe trying to use his job in the White House as a tool to impress, except now that there are eleventy billion czars and he's not one of them, it's not quite so impressive.

At least his suicide made for fun TV.  I thought it was going to be Taub lying on the floor in a pool of blood, myself.

After a year of crippling delays, President Barack Obama's $5 billion program to install weather-tight windows and doors has retrofitted a fraction of homes and created far fewer construction jobs than expected.

In Indiana, state-trained workers flubbed insulation jobs. In Alaska, Wyoming and the District of Columbia, the program has yet to produce a single job or retrofit one home. And in California, a state with nearly 37 million residents, the program at last count had created 84 jobs.

Update:   I just read the whole thing, as the say, and it appears to be more limited than I originally saw.  As most laws, it says one thing in the heading and then contradicts (further limits) itself below.  There is a yearly cost laid out and the restriction of health/natural disaster application is more or less specified.  I still think its unnecessary and overreaching and shouldn't be in there but I doubt Obama could actually use it for anything too nefarious.

Oh yeah, this bill was all about Healthcare, not the terrifying expansion of government power.

(1) IN GENERAL.–here shall be in the Service a commissioned Regular Corps and a Ready Reserve Corps for service in time of national emergency.
(2) REQUIREMENT.–All commissioned officers shall be citizens of the United States and shall be appointed without regard to the civil-service laws and compensated without regard to the Classification Act 2 of 1923, as amended.
(3) APPOINTMENT.–Commissioned officers of the Ready Reserve Corps shall be appointed by the President and commissioned officers of the Regular Corps shall be appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate.
(4) ACTIVE DUTY.–Commissioned officers of the Ready Reserve Corps shall at all times be subject to call to active duty by the Surgeon General, including active duty for the purpose of training.

Remember, you're not paranoid if they really are out to get you.

As Ace has always stated, you don't need to spin that which you don't cover.

Between offering a judgeship to the brother of a wavering Democrat, and forcing out of office a "No" Vote, thus lowering the margin the bill needs for passage (now, all the Democrats need are 216 votes, not the more dicey 217), this is how the Chicago Way will get what they want. Just be on the lookout for military bases, contract awards/revocations, mysterious arrests in nightclubs, surprise tax audits, etc.
