Yes, like another young man from Chicagoland, Barack Obama is popular with all kinds of vacuous youngsters. Why, the Grauniad has quotes from a number of them, who even pose wearing Hopenchange fashions!

For starters, we've got 24-year-old Jordana Zeldin, who sez:

Obama has become like Che Guevara in terms of what his face represents on merchandising.

You said it, Jordana. Hey, some of his campaign staffers would totally agree!

Kellam Clark, a 30-year-old "artist and furniture maker" is wearing an Obama t-shirt, but remarks:

I was sceptical about Obama initially. I'd heard him speak a lot, and though I thought he was a good orator and said moving things in general, in terms of actual policy, I never saw it.

Me neither, Kellam. Me neither. He's supporting Ralph Nader now, but still rocks the Captain Bullshit shirt. Why does he wear it?

I live in a black neighbourhood in Brooklyn, and I work with a lot of young African-American people who have no hope, and it's interesting to hear them finally engaged a bit in politics. I want to support those conversations that are occurring in my neighbourhood by wearing a T-shirt with a black candidate.

Kellam is very, very white, by the way. And not at all condescending.

But my favorite has to be Viola Afrifa, 23, a student. Viola is quoted thusly:

This is the way that I can express my politics. If I completely share the beliefs of a politician then I can wear his face on my T-shirt, and I do with Obama.

Like, totally. On a shirt!

There are a few more examples of the "youth vote," which we're constantly told is going to be the difference in a Democrat victory, and they're all similarly stupid.

To quote another character from that particular movie, I weep for the future.
